General User Agreement

Computer Facilities Usage Agreement
Department of Computer Science
University of Colorado

The purpose of this agreement is to maintain a usable computing
environment for all users. CSOps has the authority to disable
logins immediately for failure to comply with this agreement.
The department must be strict in these matters, not only because
of the real value of the facilities, but also because their in-
tegrity is critical for the research and instructional activities
of the faculty, staff, and students. These rules apply to any
system on the Computer Science Dept networks.

1) All usage of these facilities must be consistent with the
purpose for which the account was originally requested and pro-
vided as stated on the login application form. If a change in
requirements occurs, a new login application form must be submit-
ted for approval. Occasional personal use is allowed. Expressly
   prohibited are any uses which:

     - are unrelated to CS dept research or instruction, or
     - benefit any political or commercial organization, or
     - are for profit

2) All computer accounts (logins) are for the use of a single
individual, the person for whom the account was approved. Shar-
ing or loaning accounts is strictly prohibited.

3) Use of these facilities to gain unauthorized access to any
other account, at this facility or any other facility, is ex-
   pressly prohibited.

4) These facilities may only be used for lawful purposes.
Transmission of any material in violation of any US or state re-
gulation is prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to:
copyrighted material (unless authorized by the copyright holder),
threatening or obscene material, or material protected by trade
   secret.

5) Use of other organizations' networks or computing resources
must comply with the rules for that network. You agree to abide
by the Univeristy of Colorado's Appropriate Use Policy which is
   located on: http://www.colorado.edu/ITS/docs/responsibilities.html

6) Any entries in ~/.rhosts must be within the cs.colorado.edu
domain and not specify another user.

7) Tigger is considered the graduate student computer and
should be the primary computer used by graduate students unless
other arrangements have been specifically made.

8) Consideration of other users in use of the computing
resources shall be made including but not limited to: using
nice(1) to lower the priority of large processes or scheduling
them to run at night or the weekend, conserving resources like
paper and diskspace, promptly returning borrowed materials, log-
ging out instead of using a screen lock program, etc.

9) The following activities are prohibited:

     - Storing, posting, or displaying obscene or offensive data, even
temporarily, in areas where one might view them passively or
       inadvertently.

     - Any activities which adversely affect the reputation or image of
this organization. Such activities must be viewed in context with
       their audience.

I understand and will abide by the above terms and conditions for
use of these facilities. If the propriety of any situation is
unclear, I will ask for clarification from CSOps rather than mak-
ing assumptions.
